FAILSPACE is a process-based workshop series led by a monthly rotation of emerging artist faculty. The workshops are held 12:00-2:00 PM on the first four Sundays of every month at Arts On Site. FAILSPACE is a platform for emerging artists interested in live performance to grow their teaching practice among peers. FAILSPACE is founded on the belief that as a community, we can recognize the creative processes of our peers as a resource for the diversified and rigorous training. Moreover, FAILSPACE supports the early career artist by valuing their creative process with ample space, time, and money.
To provide a platform for emerging artists interested in live performance to grow their teaching practice among their peers. To recognize the creative processes of our peers as a resource for diversified and rigorous performance training. To cultivate a community ethos that allows for both experimentation and failure within the creative process. To make early careers financially viable for artists.
FAILSPACE is dedicated to creating a community around anti-racist, anti-oppressive principles that support diversity across national origin, race, ability, age, sexual orientation, and gender. Practices that support this ethos include proactive outreach to the above-mentioned communities, consultation from a diverse steering committee, and a commitment to challenging manifestations of whiteness, able-bodiedness, and privilege.
